Washington, DC: Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, a subsidiary of Fincantieri Marine Group, has been awarded the 23rd Annual Wisconsin Corporate Safety Award, co-sponsored by the Wisconsin Safety Council and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. More than 100 companies competed for the prestigious award.

Fincantieri Marine Group President and CEO, Francesco Valente, commented on the significance of the award. “It is gratifying to receive this distinguished honor, and it validates the daily hard work of our management team and the focus of our workforce in establishing a safety culture in our shipyards that filters through every level of each organization. This recognition follows suit with numerous other safety awards earned by our U.S. shipyards in the last five years,” he said.

While this is the tenth safety award in three years for Fincantieri’s Bay Shipbuilding, Fincantieri’s Marinette shipyard has also been awarded for ‘Excellence-in-Safety’ for three years in a row by the Shipbuilders Council of America; and, Fincantieri’s Green Bay-based Aluminum Center of Excellence has received the National Safety Council’s ’Perfect Record Award’ three times in the last five years.

Todd Thayse, Vice President and General Manager of Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding, said that shipyard safety and worker situational awareness is given top priority. “We’ve strived to achieve the highest level of safety awareness and worked hard to foster this culture. Our safety program is a combination of classroom training, behavioral based learning, risk identification and pre-job planning. We have total buy-in from our workforce and this award is a result of their efforts,” he said.

The award will be presented in conjunction with the 75th Annual Wisconsin Safety and Health Conference and Exposition in mid-April at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells.
