Marine Marinette, WI: Fincantieri Marinette Marine announced today that Vice Admiral Richard W. Hunt, USN (Ret.), a former Director of Navy Staff with a nearly four-decade career in the U.S. Navy, has joined the company. He will serve as the American shipbuilder’s Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Institutional Relations.

“The U.S. Navy needs the best, but it must also be a careful steward of taxpayer dollars,” said Hon. H. Lawrence Garrett, Chairman of the Board of Fincantieri Marinette Marine and former Secretary of the Navy. “Adm. Hunt understands that. As a former commander of critical naval surface forces, he knows what the Navy needs to fight and to win.”

“I am proud to join Fincantieri Marinette Marine,” said Adm. Hunt. “I dedicated my career to the U.S. Navy. It is an extension of my service to join the team expanding and modernizing the U.S. Navy Fleet. Fincantieri Marinette Marine’s innovative engineering makes the U.S. Navy stronger and more agile, and saves American taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars. Having spent my life aboard ships, I know the value of the best, most reliable technology. That is what Fincantieri Marinette Marine provides. Additionally, Fincantieri’s shipyards and suppliers employ over 2,500 of steelworkers, craftsmen, and engineers in my home state of Wisconsin and across the United States.”

At Fincantieri Marinette Marine, Adm. Hunt will communicate the American shipbuilder’s technological and performance advantages. He will also manage and expand Fincantieri Marinette Marine’s relationships with government customers and federal, state, and local government entities.

During Adm. Hunt’s 37 years in the Navy, he held several high-profile commands, including Commander of Carrier Strike Group Six; Commander of the Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa; Commander of the U.S. Third Fleet; and Commander of Naval Surface Force for the U.S. Pacific Fleet. Adm. Hunt’s shore assignments included Director of Navy Staff; Executive Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; and deputy director of Strategy and Policy, Joint Staff (J5).

“The men and women who make up Fincantieri Marinette Marine have a duty to the Navy and to the United States,” said Capt. Fred Moosally, USN (Ret.), CEO of Fincanteri USA, Fincantieri Marinette Marine’s parent company. “That is why we employ the best – from our steelworkers in Wisconsin to our engineers in Maryland, we know that great people build great ships. We are fortunate to have Adm. Hunt join the team that helps us serve our country.”
