Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding (FBS) is a 63-acre custom-built facility designed for efficient new construction, major conversions, repairs, and sustainment of commercial, Coast Guard, and Army Corps of Engineers’ vessels.
As part of the Fincantieri Marine Group, FBS traces its history of building quality ships in Sturgeon Bay, Wis. back to 1918. We are considered the premier western designer and shipbuilder.
Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding is open year-round. We are equipped with climate-controlled manufacturing facilities, a U.S. Navy-Certified Floating Drydock, a Graving Dock, ample Waterfront space, and lifting capacity to meet the most demanding requirement.
Our parent company, FINCANTIERI, recently completed a $300 million capital expansion plan which included many updates and improvements for the FBS facility, including a new floating drydock, computer-aided manufacturing equipment, and climate-controlled manufacturing facilities.
Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding continuously refines its production capabilities to meet the demands of our commercial and government clients. We build extraordinary vessels and provide relevant after-sale service and logistics support. This business philosophy is the basis of our reputation for superior service and on-time delivery. It is the foundation of our vision and leadership in providing complete marine solutions.
Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding boasts some of the best engineering and architecture minds in the industry, a skilled, safe, and motivated workforce, and a management team keenly focused on quality. The company is internationally recognized for innovative and highly efficient, modular, subassembly, and assembly-line manufacturing techniques. Our sophistication in construction methods has allowed Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding to build some of the most technologically advanced vessels on the planet.
FBS repair professionals are among the industry’s most experienced. The scope of repairs offered by FBS to domestic and foreign commercial vessels, as well as the U.S. Coast Guard and the Army Corp of Engineers, is varied. Our team performs hull repairs and painting, electrical and piping and mechanical systems repairs, and scrubber installation as well as engine repairs, inspections, and maintenance.
Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding is proud to be the preferred facility for the repair business on the Great Lakes. We are experts at managing critical time-sensitive deadlines in the repair and sustainment of the Great Lakes Fleet and our record for on-time delivery is unmatched.
Vessel conversions can deliver major savings in both time and cost compared to a new-build project. Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding has decades of experience in both small and complex vessel conversions—from design and engineering to vessel dimensions and capacities, vessel repurposes, or power plant conversion. FBS in-house design and construction teams work closely with customers to meet each of their critical needs and to ensure that statutory requirements of classifying societies are met or exceeded.
