Repair and Maintenance

Our repair and maintenance professionals are among the industry’s most experienced and operate a year-round service at our Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding facility in Sturgeon Bay, Wis.

Repair services include:

  • The annual time-sensitive repair and maintenance of the Great Lakes fleet
  • Hull repairs and painting
  • Propulsion system repair
  • Electrical, piping, and mechanical systems repairs
  • Scrubber installation
  • Engine repair, inspections and maintenance
  • Large fabrications

Conversion

Vessel conversions can deliver major savings in both time and cost compared to a new-build project.

Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding has decades of experience in both small and complex vessel conversions—from design and engineering to vessel dimensions and capacities, vessel repurpose, or power plant conversion. Our in-house design and construction teams work closely with customers to meet each critical need and to ensure that statutory requirements of classifying societies are met or exceeded.

Emergency Repairs

Our repair and maintenance shipyard is fully capable of handling large and complex shipping requirements.

In addition to scheduled repair and maintenance, we provide emergency repair service in the form of:

  • Voyage repairs
  • Mechanical and electrical repairs
  • Hull and propulsion repairs
  • Survey and inspection service

Facilities and Equipment

Our 63-acre Sturgeon Bay facility has the capacity and equipment to handle large and small vessels and includes:

  • A U.S. Navy-Certified Floating Drydock
  • Large 1,154 x 140 ft Graving Dock
  • 654 x 117 ft Combined Floating Dry Dock (216 foot and 432-foot sections can operate individually)
  • 225 x 39 ft Graving Dock
  • Lay-up berths accommodating vessels up to 1000 feet
  • Numerous crawler and gantry cranes with a lift capacity of up to 200 tons

Onsite we have a 78,000 square foot fully-enclosed fabrication shop, equipped with CNC plasma burning and automated manufacturing processes including:

  • Tower Installation
  • Piping Installation
  • Tank Installation and Modification
  • Automated Electrical Control System installation and integration with existing systems
  • Technical Assistance
  • Stack Modifications
  • Steelwork

Scrubber Installations

Fincantieri Marine Group is the scrubber installation leader on the Great Lakes. We partner with shipping companies to create the best retrofit installation process to meet their needs and timeframe.

With a proven track record of successful installations and expertise in ship retrofits, Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding can meet the requirements for your emission control project.

Our expertise and capabilities include:

  • Completion of five (5) scrubber installations, including three for 1000-foot freighters.
  • The expertise to install closed-loop, open-loop, and hybrid systems.
  • The ability to transform ships to make them scrubber-ready by providing extensive structural, piping, and electrical modifications.

Complete many of these installations during an extended winter fleet repair period in order to minimize downtime.

ISO 9001:2015 specifies requirements and regulatory standards that the organization’s quality management system must support and make possible through its production methods.

Regulators from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) regularly audit participating organizations to ensure they are consistently providing products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. These efforts are in place to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, through process improvement and greater conformity.
